Event: 2009 Advanced Rhinology Concepts
Date: 11/6/2009
Location: The University of Texas Medical School at Houston

For registration please visit www.sinuscourse.com We are pleased to announce 2009 Advanced Rhinology Concepts (ARC), a medical education program dedicated to the study of contemporary issues in nasal and sinus disorders. This course will occur on November 6-8, 2009, at the Memorial Hermann Conference Center and the UTMS-H Surgical & Clinical Skills Center in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. The 2009 ARC meeting will build upon the successes of the previous rhinology courses sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic in 2001-2005. We anticipate an attendance of 100 physicians, and the meeting will feature an exciting program, including a faculty of internationally-recognized authorities with expertise in sinonasal disorders. David Kennedy, MD has agreed to participate in the program as our honored guest, and Daniel Hamilos, MD will provide the CME dinner keynote address. This program is a collaborative effort of the Texas Sinus Institute of the UTMS-H Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. The Memorial Hermann Conference Center will serve as the main site for lectures, and the UTMS-H Surgical & Clinical Skill Center will host a cadaveric dissection session. The audience for the course will be comprised of practicing otorhinolaryngologists, allergists and other physicians who treat patients with sinonasal diseases as well as residents, and other health care professionals (nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants). Information about the course will also be available at the course web site (www.sinuscourse.com). This course will focus upon state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of rhinologic disorders. Acute and chronic rhinosinusitis will be important topics, since these common conditions are increasingly difficult to treat and thus are having increasing impact upon the nation’s health. Issues of microbiology, including bacterial drug resistance, will be explored. Other topics include allergic rhinitis, surgical techniques and sinonasal neoplasia. The primary format of the course will be a live meeting with PowerPoint-based didactic presentations on various rhinologic topics. Discussion panels and time for questions and answers will further the formal didactics. Moreover, demonstration cadaveric dissections will highlight important surgical principles in sinonasal surgery. Participants will have the option of participating in cadaveric dissection utilizing image-guidance under supervision of the course faculty. The didactic and the laboratory portions of the course will introduce to the participants the current medical and surgical practice of rhinology as advocated by authorities in the field. The course has been designed to help improve the management of sinonasal disease in the practices of the respective participants. This is critical given the widespread prevalence of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis in the United States. It is important to note that the course content may influence practice patterns but is not designed to serve as rigid guidelines for the management of sinonasal disease. At the conclusion of the course, rigorous evaluation of the course content and process will be performed to enhance future courses. Metrics that will be utilized to track the program will include but not limited to attendance as well as participant evaluations of the course program and presentations.
