New Park and Ride service from the mainland

The first Park and Ride service linking the mainland and UTMB will begin Monday, July 6. Running four times in the morning between 6 and 7:30  a.m. and four times in the late afternoon between 4:30 and 6 p.m., the commute originates at the Mall of the Mainland in Texas City. Additional stops include downtown Galveston and 53rd and Broadway. A fifth and final trip in the morning and evening will provide express service to and from Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens. The trip fare is $2 each way. University Cardiology in new Texas City location

John Sealy Hospital renovations

Big changes are in store for the UTMB campus as our Facilities group works to renovate several areas of John Sealy Hospital. Soon we’ll see a newly-renovated lobby, chapel, dining area, gift shop and coffee shop. The public concourse (aka “Green Hallway”) connecting the towers with the University Hospital Clinics will be changed dramatically  – plans are to widen the hallway from 6 feet to 30 feet. The work will improve the public space for patients, visitors and families and make it easier to find your way around the hospital. Stay tuned for regular updates. School of Medicine commencement

Don’t quit your day job

Commencement for the School of Medicine featured the UTMB musical group Don’t Quit Your Day Job. UTMB is seeking to hire 100 specialized nurses by July 1, 2009, especially those with at least 12 months experience in emergency services, medical/surgical, critical care or women’s services. These 100 nurses are vital to the health system’s recovery as UTMB begins to rebuild programs including its highly-ranked trauma center.
